The North East presents curing conditions that don't come up in most of England. Newcastle sits further north than anywhere else we regularly work, and ambient temperatures drop earlier in autumn and recover later in spring. Epoxy needs roughly 10°C to cure correctly, so a garage that's perfectly suitable in July can be well below the threshold by October.
This matters because epoxy that cures too cold doesn't fail immediately. It goes tacky, cloudy or partially cured and loses its chemical and abrasion resistance — often only becoming obvious months later when the floor starts marking or peeling. We use temporary heating to hold correct curing conditions on all indoor North East installations through the colder months, and we factor that into the schedule rather than hoping for a mild week.
The region's housing stock brings another consideration. Tyneside has large areas of Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Jesmond, Heaton, Gosforth and Sandyford, plus 1930s semis through Fenham and West Denton. Many have rear lane garages built directly onto older slabs, and coal dust and soot residue from the region's mining and industrial past can still be present in the concrete of period outbuildings.
Commercially, the North East's strengths in advanced manufacturing, offshore engineering and logistics give us substantial workshop and industrial work around Team Valley, Newburn, Walker, the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate and Sunderland. These specifications are built around chemical exposure, heavy plant and washdown rather than appearance. Residentially, our Rhino FB-400 full flake and Rhino HB-200 solid epoxy systems are the most popular choices across Gosforth, Ponteland, Tynemouth and the Tyne Valley.
