The Brief

A working garage that needed to look as good as it performs

Like most home garages, this slab had been laid purely as a structural base — trowel-finished, slightly uneven in places and prone to dusting underfoot. Untreated concrete also draws moisture and releases it into the air, which is why so many untreated garages feel damp and mark everything that touches them.

The requirement was a decorative finish with genuine durability — something that would take a car, a workbench and daily footfall without chipping or lifting, and stay easy to sweep. A full flake system gives exactly that: a dense, seamless surface with the visual interest of a stone look and none of the maintenance of tile or paving.

Preparation & Installation

How the floor was built

1

Moisture testing & survey

Slab moisture readings taken before any product is opened. Where readings are elevated, an appropriate damp-proof membrane is specified beneath the system rather than risking adhesion failure later.

2

Diamond grinding

The entire slab is diamond ground to remove laitance, cured surface and any existing coatings, then vacuumed. This opens the concrete's pores so the primer can mechanically key into it — the single most important step for a floor that stays put.

3

Crack & defect repair

Structural cracks are chased out and filled with a resin mortar. Hollow spots and minor hollows are treated with a levelling compound so the finished surface reads flat across the whole area.

4

Primer & base coat

A penetrating epoxy primer is applied and allowed to cure, followed by the coloured base coat that forms the body of the system.

5

Flake broadcast & seal

Vinyl flake is broadcast at full refusal — a dense, even spread that hides minor imperfections and adds slip resistance — then scraped back and locked in with a clear sealing coat.

6

Cure & handover

Foot traffic and vehicle use are held back until the system has cured, with a full care schedule provided at handover along with our 10-year workmanship warranty, subject to published terms.
